Quite an interesting theory. Essentially, they say that the virus that causes polio has existed for millennia, and is usually benign (and still is) but it takes something else to trigger it into the paralytic disease we know and fear today. Originally, it was high exposure to lead or arsenic; then with the use of a lead-arsenic spray to kill gypsy moths, many people were affected; and as that spray fell out of favor, DDT was taken up and used.
